The Bucida Spinosa, or the black olive bonsai tree, is an indoor bonsai tree that loves being warm. In fact, this tree can’t really survive in any temperature less than 40 degrees, and it really doesn’t thrive unless it’s even warmer. The black olive bonsai originally comes from the upper Florida Keys, and when left to its own devices, it can grow as tall as 50 feet and will produce very dense leaves and branches. While your indoor bonsai won’t get that large, it will still grow to a stately 15 inches tall or so. Remember to keep this bonsai in bright sunlight and to keep it nice and moist, too. Also note that while it is an evergreen, it does have spiny needles for leaves, so you may want to take care when shaping and trimming it.

It’s important to remember that your bonsai trees, especially indoor bonsai, need to have space around them so that they can get air. Plants need carbon dioxide so that they can create many of the nutrients necessary for them to survive. If you are growing many bonsai in a small space, you may be tempted to place your bonsai close together. This may prevent air flow, so be sure to leave some space between them.

My mother-in-law came for the first time and stayed with us for a couple of weeks. What I thought was going to be misery was actually a wonderful and enjoyable time! Since this was the first visit after our marriage, I hoped to impress with my home and cooking but the real hit was my gardening and garden décor skills. My mother-in-law spent almost as much time outside in the yard as she did in our home.

Though I knew she loved to be outdoors I was surprised at how much she knew about the plants we had planted. My husband had never told me she was a Master Gardener! I was astounded as she walked through the garden giving me little tips and tricks of knowledge about how and what to grow. She smiled when she saw I used iron trellises as she told me a story about her grandmother’s garden and how it was full of ironwork. Though she wasn’t sure if it were true or not, her grandmother said iron helped the flowers grow and I know better than to question a woman’s grandmother; especially when it’s my mother-in-law!

Using a raised bed kit you can easily create flowerbeds all over your property. Because these kits came in multiple sizes, shapes and materials, you have a number of ways they can be used. While it is very common to use raised beds for planting vegetables and herbs they get overlooked for flowers. For the same reason they are wonderful for eatables they are great fro flowers; root space and that’s why I think they are fantastic!

You have more room for the roots to grow downward instead of out so you can plant a lot more flowers in the same space. Having the ability to plant for a long season of blooms allows you to plan your raised flower beds to have blooming flowers from early spring all the way too late fall, creating a beautiful array of colors and textures all around you lawn and gardens throughout the season. Using raised beds let’s you place your flowers anywhere you want and they are easier to get to since they are higher up and traditionally had fewer weeds. They are a winner every which way you look at it!

Cat lovers everywhere are familiar with American folk arts Charles Wysocki’s captivating series of cat characters. Too Pooped to Participate cat throw shows a grey tabby cat, asleep, draped over the bare branch of a gnarled old tree, obviously exhausted. On a twig above, a pair of diminutive birds look down on the sleeping feline. A flight of birds dots the wintry sky. An antique tea kettle, a hole in its side, is suspended from the tree. Straw spills from its side, suggesting a bird’s nest inside. The loving attention to detail and the sense of gentle whimsy are pure Wysocki. Now this endearing scene has been reproduced on a high quality woven throw. A Wysocki cat throw makes the perfect gift for any cat lover and is sure to add that special touch to any room.

Too Pooped to Participate Cat Throw is part of the Wysocki Cat Throw Collection at Decor4u.com. Look in the Blanket Shop. The throw is 70 inches wide by 54 inches high and made in the USA of 100% cotton. It can be easily cleaned in the washer and dryer.
