The Bucida Spinosa, or the black olive bonsai tree, is an indoor bonsai tree that loves being warm. In fact, this tree can’t really survive in any temperature less than 40 degrees, and it really doesn’t thrive unless it’s even warmer. The black olive bonsai originally comes from the upper Florida Keys, and when left to its own devices, it can grow as tall as 50 feet and will produce very dense leaves and branches. While your indoor bonsai won’t get that large, it will still grow to a stately 15 inches tall or so. Remember to keep this bonsai in bright sunlight and to keep it nice and moist, too. My mother-in-law came for the first time and stayed with us for a couple of weeks. What I thought was going to be misery was actually a wonderful and enjoyable time! Since this was the first visit after our marriage, I hoped to impress with my home and cooking but the real hit was my gardening and garden décor skills. Using a raised bed kit you can easily create flowerbeds all over your property. Because these kits came in multiple sizes, shapes and materials, you have a number of ways they can be used. While it is very common to use raised beds for planting vegetables and herbs they get overlooked for flowers. For the same reason they are wonderful for eatables they are great fro flowers; root space and that’s why I think they are fantastic! (more…)

Cat lovers everywhere are familiar with American folk arts Charles Wysocki’s captivating series of cat characters. Too Pooped to Participate cat throw shows a grey tabby cat, asleep, draped over the bare branch of a gnarled old tree, obviously exhausted. On a twig above, a pair of diminutive birds look down on the sleeping feline. A flight of birds dots the wintry sky. An antique tea kettle, a hole in its side, is suspended from the tree.
