According to the report, most of the Internet service providers utilized a company called Paxfire.  Paxfire provides services specifically designed to monetize Internet searches. As a matter of fact, their principal business involves profiting off of traffic generated by DNS errors. The way it does this is by sending individuals who mistype a web URL into their browser to sales pages where they can earn a commission.  Internet service provider reviews indicate that some of the companies also used another Paxfire program designed to hijack and redirect web searches intended for Google, Yahoo and Bing via HTTP proxies.

Finding the best ISP requires you to carefully consider your priorities. While you can look for rankings amongst the top internet providers, it’s important to remember that what is best for one person might not be best for another. For example, perhaps you’re looking to pay as little as possible and don’t mind if it means moderate speeds. Another person may be willing to pay top dollar for the fastest possible speeds. On the other hand, some people fall squarely in the middle of these extremes. Take a moment to think about what the best value for you would be before you pick your ISP.
